Spotlight: Sprinkle Grace’s CEO is Five Years Old!

Sprinkle Grace

It’s never too early to start creating your future.
Kidpreneurs are an incredible example.

When I first read about Sprinkle Grace, I was so inspired. Grace is only five years old, and she already has a thriving business, with the help of her mom.

Sprinkle Grace

Sprinkle Grace Co. is a beauty, lifestyle, and wellness company with two principles in mind: to Sprinkle Grace and spread love. They offer natural products that create solutions, using a natural, minimalist approach.

They are building a holistic brand that will stand the test of time. From essential oil rollers to whipped body butter with essential oils, natural deodorants, natural lip balm, 24K Lip Gloss, hand sanitizer, to diffusers and gemstone jewelry, to their self-authored book, and so many exciting projects.

Who is Grace? How old are you?

I am Grace Avera Pierce, and I am five years old.  My birthday is on July 9, so I will be 6.

How does it feel to be a CEO at your age?

I’m pretty excited to be a CEO so young.

I am also an aspiring model and do runway shows in NYC, LA, and Charlotte. During one of our LA trips, I started helping my mom support her company by doing videos, and she decided to help me build my brand.

How was SprinkleGrace Co. born?

In May 2019, we chose to follow my mother’s natural approach to everyday supports, using essential oils. Grace enjoyed making rollers for her bumps and bruises. She would even tell others, “there is an oil for that.”

In June, we formed Sprinkle Grace Co.: a brand that focuses on beauty, lifestyle, and wellness for little girls, their moms, and their grandmas.

Our lifestyle brand developed when we decided to expand our essential oil usage. We combined diffuser beads for essential oils and natural gemstones for daily affirmations to make bracelets. Then, we created our Diffuser and Gemstone Jewelry and 24k Lip Gloss that contain natural gemstone chips.

We also introduced our Sprinkle Grace Lifestyle Series: I AM Book, which allows kids to write their daily affirmations in ten steps.

What were the main challenges at the beginning?

We haven’t had any challenges, just new adventures to conquer. Building a brand while I try to be a kid, and my mom works her full-time job, her businesses, and works on her Ph.D. can be draining at times.

Who was the most supportive of your business?

My family is the most supportive.  I love my Grandparents and my Aunt Tammie. They make sure my dreams come true.

What’s the most popular SprinkleGrace product?

Definitely, the Whipped Body Body, the Lip Balm, and the Affirmation Bracelets.
Our products are for little girls, their moms, and their grandmas, but we serve men too.  My Dad, Uncle Mo, Uncle Earby, and Uncle James are my biggest male supporters.

What about your wellness brand?

Our Wellness Brand is our new baby.

Being forced to overpay for elderberry gummies during trying times, we decided to make our own Elderberry Honey Lollipops. We partnered with a small whole leaf tea company and a local elderberry company to help boost generational immune systems.

Sprinkle Grace is also doing her part to save the world, with a recycling program, and using 75% glass packaging, which allows our customers to save on future purchases.

Every year that we meet our sales goals, a percentage of our profits will go to helping other kids start their businesses or join the modeling, acting, and runway world. We will also give to worthy kids’ foundations that sprinkle Grace in the community.

What about future projects?

We have a book called “I AM” and want to create more kid authors, so we created Sprinkle Grace Publishing.

We are also focusing on social change by creating Sprinkle Grace Inspires Foundation.  This foundation will inspire kid activists to support important causes around the world.  The last Thursday of every month, up to 10 kids will meet to have kid discussions leading to change.

What message would you send to kids your age?

I would say to them, choose to inspire others, create a business to get more money, and raise your allowance.

What would you say to your followers in times of coronavirus?

Always wear a mask when you are going outside and wash your hands.

Spotlight: Patricia Rogers’s Message for Entrepreneurs

A message for entrepreneurs.

I met Patricia Rogers, CEO of Unity in Service, Inc., at a networking event with Bill Walsh.

She is a business development strategist, best-selling author, and public speaker. She is also an event coordinator and marketer. In Utility Avenue’s weekly spotlight, she sends an empowering message for entrepreneurs to live the dream.

I am a Correctional Lieutenant after 29 years of service in law enforcement. The best decision that I made was the decision to prepare before retiring so that I could finally meet the woman in the mirror.

After reading Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich, I learned that it only takes one sound idea to achieve success, and this was a defining moment for me.

Retiring was my time to discover who I was and why I was put here in the first place. Most rewarding was discovering my talents and hobbies and turning them into a business that would impact the lives of so many. I found that I genuinely had the entrepreneurial spirit. Besides, I have a passion for inspiring the lives of other entrepreneurs.

Unity In Service, Inc. “Where People Need People” was born, doing what I enjoy by setting a platform that allows entrepreneurs to be seen and heard from the stage while developing even more wealth and building relationships that take their businesses to a new level! The annual conferences that we host “Entrepreneurs Living The Dream sets a standard for the entrepreneur to leave with more than they came with. We put the spotlight on our participants and attendees because they said YES to the call.

My Passion is spotlighting entrepreneurs and public speakers so that they can be seen and heard by the masses.

I am teaching, encouraging, and providing a stage for them to grow!

People Need People!

Empowering Entrepreneurs To Live The Dream

Technology is the driving force in the world today, but I want to remind you that some old habits are worth hanging onto, such as verbal communication, eye contact, picking up the phone as opposed to an email or a text. Try getting out of the chair that sits in front of the computer! People are waiting on you to get up, suit up, and show up to a LIVE Event!

Networking is one of the fastest ways to build genuine relationships that will take you to a new level in your business and life in general.

People connect with those they get to know, like, and trust. I call that the human touch. Connecting and serving others is invaluable.

Today, I want to leave you with four tips:

  • Say yes to opportunities that connect with others.
  • Be authentic and let others get to know the real you.
  • Communicate effectively and leave an impression.
  • Network with intention and follow up with a call.

Remember, fulfilling your dreams involves other people, and when other people fulfill their dreams, it involves YOU! As Miles Munroe said, “The value of life is not in its duration, but the value of life is in its donation!”

Spotlight: Bestselling Author Laura DiBenedetto Talks about The Six Habits

Two weeks ago, I read The Six Habits, #1 bestselling book by Laura DiBenedetto, TEDx speaker, success coach, podcaster, educator, and researcher. The book is currently ranking #1 in Behaviour, #1 in Behavioral Psychology, and #1 in Journaling.

The book was raw, practical and extremely useful. These habits resonated so much with me that I reached out to the author about being interviewed by Utility Avenue. She agreed, so in our weekly spotlight, we want to share her wisdom.

Who is Laura DiBenedetto?

I am an average human. I’m a curious, creative person, and I like to help.

When I found myself close to retiring and discovered life was not what I thought it would be, I wanted to solve that problem. I did not set out to write a book, but in answering it, I was like, “woohoo, I can give this to other people.” I was excited to share it. The book was the byproduct of changing my own life massively. I wanted to invite others into the life they’ve always dreamed of but didn’t think they could have.

How did it all begin?

The desire for the book came from being remarkably unhappy, and just not being okay with that. I did so much: I started a marketing company at 19. For years, I worked so hard to build the life someone else told me was going to bring me all the happiness and satisfaction. When I got there, and I had checked all the boxes, I said, “Okay, give me…”. It wasn’t there.

I was upset and got sick and tired of doing this whole self-help work: I bought all the programs and read all the books, and I was still unhappy. I wanted to solve that. In the process, I found such a massive transformation in my own life that I wanted to share it with others. I had to do more than just write a few sentences and ask people, “Do this magic recipe.” That’s how the book was born.

Besides, I created a 90-day program. It’s great to know about the Six Habits but, without mastery, life will be no different. That’s the real work we need to do. Can you master it on your own? Yeah, you can. It will be easy if you are disciplined about it and work with the science of habits. But I am a stubborn human being, and I don’t want to do the things that are good for me: eat my veggies, or floss, or say “no” to the cake.

There are a lot of programs out there that promise permanent change in 21 days, in 30 days. It’s all a lie. They just want to take your money. My program might look harder on the outside because it’s 90 days, but that’s science. I am not telling you what you want to hear; I’m telling you the truth. If you’re going to be set free, you need 66 days of repetitious activity to build the muscle.

What helped you the most to become a number 1 best-selling author?

I would say, number one: going through an incredible amount of hardship and surviving. It showed me that I am a lot stronger than I thought. I was going through the rough things you read about in the book, like abuse and bullying. Two, my parents are organically resilient people. They are stubborn and problem-solvers — my dad is an inventor. They are both extremely remarkable human beings, with very different things they bring to life, to themselves, to their marriage and their family. I learned a lot from them, from watching them exist but also from how they raised me. My mom always told me, “You can do anything.” “I believe in you.” “You’re always good enough.” “You’re beautiful,” and “You’re special.” The world did not say those things, but my mom did.

What were the main challenges while writing the book?

It was hard to organize my thoughts. I did comprehensive research to back up what I was saying by human behavior, by psychology, by science. I wanted to build something compelling and useful. Like everybody else who writes a book for the first time, you go into it thinking, “I’m just gonna write a book!” and then you just write and write and write. When I finished, I discovered I was far from done. You need to take time away from it, and then go back to it. Then, you need to set it on fire, rewrite the whole thing, clarify your thoughts, hire a professional editor, learn about marketing and publishing, set more things on fire, reedit, and then return, return, and return. It’s been a twenty-month process. I am incredibly grateful to go through all this because, with every iteration, I was organizing my thoughts. I was getting closer to the truth. It was harder than I thought, but it was worth it: all of it.

Who was the most supportive?

Two of my best friends, because they were going through a hard time at the same time I was going through a hard time. One of them was going through depression and anxiety; another one was going through a marriage falling apart. They just wanted the same feelings of joy I was yearning for, but for different reasons. I told them what I was working on and, then I said, “Let’s try to do this together!” I decided to write down a few paragraphs so they could understand. Those paragraphs turned into 55,000 words. I remember when I had about 30,000 words, I thought: “There’s a book here! I can go the distance!” And I chose to go the distance.

Once we’d all realized that I had a book here, they started cheering me on. I’ve done an excellent job surrounding myself with incredible people that celebrate when I succeed, not just wanna hold my hand when I cry. Those are real friends.

My husband too. He’s been super supportive the whole time. He did the 90-day program with me first, and he’s a different person. We’re different people because of my program, and we are not held back by façades anymore. We are not like, “I need to be this way because this is what the world needs me to be, or because I have to protect myself.” No, we say, “I deserve to be this way because this is who I am. And what a privilege to be me! I’m just going to be my best self because that’s the joyful life that I deserve. Period.”

I’m happy now.

We are happy now.

the Six Habits book

Which are these six habits?

The six habits are kindness, acceptance, gratitude, presence, goodness, and intention.

Who is your book for?

For the people that achieved a certain level of success in their lives, but when they did, they discovered it was not what it was supposed to be.

For the people that lied or were lied to about what happiness was, and always chased the wrong idea. Just like me: I chased success, I chased money, I chased the perfect size two body thinking that would make me happy.

For the person that is just tired of believing lies and pursuing things that don’t resonate. This book will change that person. It can honestly work for everybody, but the people that have felt betrayed by a society that told them a bunch of lies about what happiness was, this will land better than probably anyone else.

How have readers reacted to your book?

I’m so excited. I’ve been getting five-star reviews. I’m so grateful for them, and it’s so thrilling. It’s wonderful to know that people are genuinely feeling a connection to the words and understanding that these are core life values.

Do you have any other passions?

I like to paint, and I am also an amateur photographer. My hobbies are simple: traveling alone might be the most exciting thing about me. My husband is a big fan of that because he knows I come home happy and fulfilled. I love exploring the world, meeting awesome people from different cultures, and having incredible food. I also really enjoy baking.

My passion is my family: my parents, my friends, and my life with my husband, my cat, and my dog. LOVE them! I can’t deny that I worked very hard to make this particular dream come true. I was scared about moving [to Maui], but I did the big scary thing for me, and I am glad I did.

If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

Nothing. It unfolded exactly the way it should. The time I took to write it and perfect it, and do the research was necessary. I made mistakes I learned valuable lessons from. I wish the people who meet me now had known me three years ago, and compare her to the person I am as a result of my book and my work. Three years ago, I had so much negativity, and today, I am full of gratitude and love for everyone. So, I wouldn’t change a thing—even the bad, like my divorce, the abuse, and the bullying. I wouldn’t change any of it. Nothing, because that would change the fabric of who I am and I love who I am.

What future projects do you have?

I’m writing a business book at some point. I’m excited to do that after 20 years in the business world, 21 now. It’s been a great adventure being an entrepreneur, and I think college is not AT ALL a place for people to learn to be anything other than a cog in a machine someone else built. Not everyone is meant for employment. I wasn’t. When I said I wanted to do my own thing, there were a lot of raised eyebrows. There were little support systems out there at the time to support me. College could introduce valuable knowledge like accounting, marketing, business.

Here’s one principle that is not being taught and will be in my book: Sometimes, your best isn’t good enough, and you must deal with that. The business world does not just hand out participation trophies. Sometimes your best doesn’t cut it, and you lose, and none is going to be there to console you. You need to figure it out, put your big girl pants on, and move on, and get better next time. So, someday, your best will be good enough, and then, eventually, your best will be better than everybody else’s best that you are competing with. The truth is people are not ready. As a result, they are terrified to be entrepreneurs, and they shouldn’t be. It’s a different framework. To be an entrepreneur requires that you are tenacious, curious, and relentless.

What message would you send to your readers?

Do the work.

That’s it. It’s worth it. It will be difficult, but it will give you all the freedom you’ve craved. You need to have the courage to face yourself. You have to be willing to do the work. The struggle is where the beauty is.

Honestly, I want every single person to be exposed to the Six Habits and to do the 90-day program because the habits that are in place now are what got you the life you are living, and for most people, the life they are living is not the one they want to be living. The book is an excellent start to awaken the mind, but the brain needs to be trained. You have to integrate these habits. It’s to do the work to change your ways and your patterns, like not flossing vs. flossing. Of course, it’s a little different than being remarkably unkind to yourself and being the bully inside your head and transforming that relationship into one of the nurturing patterns. You have to work on it and be unafraid.

Can you tell me the essential idea of the book in one sentence?

The Six Habits is a book about liberation and the things we need to do to live the life we were meant for.

Is there anything you would like to add?

I think people will benefit from giving themselves grace. The self-help world and the personal development world do so well because they operate on very predatory thinking, which is “buy my book because only my solution can help you fix what is wrong with you.” I don’t subscribe to that belief at all. Humanity perpetuates false beliefs; we push them forward generationally, and it’s not our fault. Through awareness, we can give ourselves the tools that will set us free.  You are capable of mastery. But please, don’t assume it’s simple. Just do the work. That’s it.

Patrick Bet-David’s take on George Floyd’s Death and Aftermath

George Floyd’s Death and Aftermath

I can't breathe double exposure image of a black boy with a peaceful demonstrator with a sign that says "I can't breathe"
Image by Emily Hodge, from Simply Blessings Photography

The last weeks have been tough in the United States of America.

Actually, 2020 has been tough on us.

We have a pandemic that it’s still spreading while states are opening back. Then, on May 25, 2020, George Floyd was killed by Derek Chauvin during a police arrest that also involved three other officers. Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes forty-six seconds. Floyd said, “I can’t breathe” sixteen times. It took days to press charges against the officers that were involved in Floyd’s death. Demonstrations and protests erupted in over 400 cities throughout all 50 American states and internationally. People protest against the use of excessive force by police officers and lack of police accountability, but acts of looting, violence, and aggressive police activity have occurred during these demonstrations.

At Utility Avenue, we stand against racism, discrimination, and violence.

At the same time that we call for a peaceful protest, we call for a willingness to fight poverty. Poverty is the leading cause, not only of racism but of so many other social ills. And above all, we call for us not to be enemies of each other. Social divisions only make stronger those who seek to seize and perpetuate themselves in power.

For an analysis of Floyd’s unnecessary murder, we chose to share the opinion of Patrick Bet-David(PBD). We found PBD* two years ago. His Valuetainment Youtube channel is one of the most valuable resources for entrepreneurs. It has weekly how to’s, motivation, and interviews with interesting individuals. His video My Response to George Floyd’s Death and Aftermath is a balanced analysis of the situation in America, and it offers ideas about what to do from an entrepreneur’s perspective.

Video timeline

2:16 George Floyd’s murder

3:27 Criminal charges on the four officers involved

3:52 Predictions on sentences

4:38 Precedents and living with the aftermath of police brutality

7:09 Citizen Journalist: when you take the cellphone and record, you are becoming a citizen journalist. Darnella Frazier has become a citizen journalist.

8:10 The two sides:

Good cops vs. corrupt cops

Peaceful protesters vs. rioters/looters

10:18 Logic vs. Emotion

            Reason vs. Feelings

Importance of emotional detachment, empathy, and reason

14:18 Who and what is the cause? Who’s behind this? Who to blame?

15:03 Who benefits the most from the division in America?

15:56 Why is the media so excited?

17:24 Why does this keep happening?

17:46 Racism and discrimination.

19:13 Can we eliminate racism and discrimination?

21:31 2020 census race questions.

22:46 Memory – Being Iranian right after 911.

27:55 Democrats vs. Republicans vision

29:26 Voting and demographics

31:35 What are your permanent solutions?

What is the solution to this? All that is happening is bringing awareness, but none is talking solutions.”

Final words.

These are some of the solutions Patrick offers:

  • Change the way you vote. Politicians have to earn votes.
  • Help communities get financially free through Capitalism and Entrepreneurship.
  • Get so good at what you do that everybody wants to do business with you.

We, as humans, definitely need to learn, grow, and evolve.

We need to do better, be better.

The Future of the Gig Economy, by Kaylania Chapman

What’s the future of the gig economy?

We discovered Kaylania Chapman (a.k.a. The Blessed Driver) two years ago while doing research about the gig economy for Utility Avenue. Kaylania has a Youtube Channel, The Blessed Driver, where she shares personal opinions, reviews about gig apps, creative business strategies, and so much more.

Now, as times are uncertain, she graces us with her opinion about the future of the gig economy in our country.

kaylania chapman, the blessed driver

During these critical and uncertain times, the fate of gig workers today may seem unclear. There are a plethora of negative factors that can be compiled together in what many independent contractors are facing. However, I indeed have had to brace myself for the unknown. I first started working in the gig economy in 2014 as a house cleaner for a debunked company (now renamed Homeaglow) called HomeJoy. It was a temporary fix to earn some extra cash to support myself and my son. In 2016, I started driving for Uber and Lyft. Then I began doing food deliveries for Postmates. Instacart soon followed in late 2016, as well as other food delivery companies.

For a few years, the gig world was booming. I was making great money. I rented a condo and got a car. It was great. I chose that route because I was a single Mom and needed a flexible schedule. Without going into too much detail, things were great until mid-2019. Issues with Instacart’s insane rules, platform outages, and pay cuts hit my pockets. Food delivery companies such as Uber Eats, GrubHub, and others, began to cut pay, companies got greedy, and it wasn’t worth it anymore. I knew my season as a gig worker was soon coming to an end in 2019, and I was okay with that.

Looking back, I do not regret a thing.

I worked very hard and did the best I could. But what about today? Is there a fighting chance to make a decent buck on any of these platforms? The short answer is ‘possibly‘. Many of these gig companies hire so many workers and are often short-staffed (mostly with non-English speaking) on customer service personnel, which makes it hard for gig workers to dispute any issues. Each individual has situations they deem as acceptable or not. While many workers still earn great money, others are suffering. Some gig workers have had a hard time finding decent employment while others choose the gig economy as it fits their schedule or lifestyle.

At this current time, gig work is sparse for most. With the onslaught of people creating software and bots to steal “batches” and orders from the apps, finding what used to be quick and easy work seems rare these days. With the recent breakout of COVID-19, things slowed down a bit in the gig world but remained a bit steady for grocery delivery shoppers (and drivers), and some restaurant drivers.

I have always said to my audience on my channel on Youtube, The Blessed Driver, to pursue entrepreneurship. Allow working gig jobs to be a stepping stone to a better future; otherwise, they’ll be like a hamster in a wheel going in circles without reaching a destination.

I feel that gig work (at this current time) is more fit for college students or people needing a part-time job to earn an extra few dollars. Full time could be possible, but not likely.
Seeking a full-time job or starting your own business will be more sustainable than working on the gig platforms. Know what season you’re in, and don’t be afraid to step out into doing something better for you and your family.

Life’s about taking risks.

You never know until you try.

Spotlight: Machado Auto Sales

machado auto sales images

Utility Avenue is a platform for business owners and entrepreneurs to scale their services. We have created this spotlight to promote local businesses every week. This time, we present Machado Auto Sales.

Who is Machado Auto Sales?

Machado Auto Sales is an independent dealer that has served the community of South Florida for over ten years. It is a family-owned-and-operated business with more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry. We highly value the concepts of family and trust, and we treasure the relationship we build with our customers.

What is your strategy to stand out over the competition?

Being a family-owned independent dealer helps the development of our business. We work from an intimate and personalized perspective. Identifying the client’s needs and understanding their economic reality guarantee the selection of the right vehicle. The financial institutions that we collaborate with help us acquire fair loans and equitable interest rates for our customers. The solid relationships we have built with these institutions allow us to better serve customers with difficult credit conditions.

We want our clients to become part of our family and consider us for future investments. At Machado Auto Sales, we don’t only want to sell cars. We want to make a positive impact on customer lives.

We can assure you that we have a car and a loan for each client.

Any advice to those that are thinking about buying a car?

Purchasing a car is a complex process. It is one of the most significant investments, only surpassed by those of real estate transactions. You will be dealing with banks and assuming financial responsibility for several years. The result of this relationship and how you meet the requirements of the contract established by the bank will influence your credit capabilities in the future. Bad financial decisions could significantly affect your credit history and even end in bankruptcy.

Let us help you: consider our professional advice, and allow us to guarantee the right loan for your credit health. This will give you the possibility to acquire better vehicles and more favorable loans in the future. Apart from consulting professionals, you, as a client, need to be objective and understand what you can realistically afford. Be flexible and understand that our objective is not just to sell you a car, but to establish a lifelong relationship of trust with you.

How has COVID-19 affected the car sales industry?

The current COVID-19 pandemic has also affected the car sales industry. However, small businesses, as well as big franchises, have turned into finding alternatives first to guarantee the safety of clients and then keep a business load solid enough to keep the doors open.

What measures have you taken regarding COVID-19 to help and protect your clients?

In Machado Auto Sales, we have significantly reduced the prices of all our inventory to facilitate the acquisition of these vehicles.

We have also created the necessary conditions to ensure social distancing, so we work per appointment. In most cases, the clients choose the vehicle online and submit all the information to process the loan. That way, we have reduced the waiting time in our facilities. The clients get to the dealer just to confirm the conditions of the selected vehicle and seal the deal.

We recommend clients to be responsible. We encourage them to make their decisions at home and get to the dealers more to buy than to explore. Taking care of ourselves and protecting others is the best way strategy to beat COVID-19.

Spotlight: Networking, by Giovanni Savo

What is Networking?

headshot

Why do we network? What is it about going into the world, live or virtually, to find other people to connect with?  The awkwardness of the first few minutes, the elevator pitch girl, the canned opening lines, the throwing business card guy, the guys who just go to drink, the guys who only go to find a date. What is this all about? What is this ritual that we partake in after a full day of work, on aching feet, and with tired smiles?

Networking is pure magic when your heart is in the right place, and you go to make authentic connections in a plastic world. The feel of a sincere handshake, a real smile of someone who is fighting for their dreams, is such an incredible feeling.

The magic of networking is the giving of yourself when you want to ask for a connection. The beauty of networking is when you want a lead and need a close but give one instead: when you go to listen to people about their business, their challenges, their joy and pain, and you connect authentically to their stories.

We live in a microwave culture. Everything is done in 2 minutes. When you take this approach to networking, you have a network of zero value and built like a house of (business) cards. The art of communication is being lost. The selfishness of right-now me and immediate business is so counter to building a lasting, long term relationship that it shocks me that so many people do not see this.

A genuine networking relationship is based on competence, trust, and respect. It takes time to build a stable and valuable connection. The beauty of networking is that you come across beautiful people: dreamers, go-getters, funny, smart, and witty. These are people who will add value to your life, both in business and personally.  They would proudly refer you to your friends and family without being asked.  They call you and give your number to a friend or client who is waiting for your call.

Networking is work. ‘Work’ is in the word itself. It is a process that takes time. It is never-ending, and it might sometimes be heartbreaking. But it is so worth it. Because when you come across someone from your tribe and you vibe with them, the bond is real, and it amplifies your connection.

I have spent the last 4+ years going to events at bars, coffee shops, speed networking events. More than once, I was the only one at an event. I have attended organized events, crappy events, virtual events, and some that have walked in on and then right out.  But, over this time, I have met some incredible people who are now dear friends. They have enriched my life and have left a real mark. I have done business with some and referred business to others.

Building a network is hard work. There are also fundamentals that you can rely on to start and focus your efforts to yield good reliable results. It is a process that needs to be practiced and worked.

  • Try various platforms that showcase and broadcast events in your city.
  • Try different types of events, different formats, and even different times of the day.
  • Practice the art of listening.

Connecting and listening to people is the key to success. When you walk into an event, have the mindset of “who am I going to meet today that will change my life?” and “who am I going to meet so I can change theirs?”. Follow up, follow up, follow up. This is so critical to success in networking; it can’t be overstated.

In my next guest post, I am going to write about networking skills and how to use them.

Final words about networking

In summary, some people approach networking like a hunting expedition: looking for a kill, a score, a sale. When I look at these types of networkers, I see a slaughterhouse of broken promises, speedy deals, and empty relationships. For me, networking is like farming, cultivating, working, sacrificing, providing energy, passion, and nurturing relationships. When I look at my network, I see a flourishing garden, full of promise, potential, endless abundance, and beauty. This ever-growing network is full of amazing people from all walks of life, all industries, all levels of skills, diverse and competent.

I hope you find joy in the work, the commitment, the time, and the results of building your network. In the future, you will have priceless friends, and you will become a valuable addition to people’s lives as well.
